SA 8000 is the leading social certification standard for organizations and manufacturing facilities around the world. SAI developed and issued the SA 8000 standard to establish new benchmarks for workers’ rights. SA stands for Social Accountability.

What is the SA 8000 Standard?

SA 8000 is a standard used to benchmark and evaluate corporate social responsibility. It was developed by CEPAA (Council on Economic Priorities Accreditation Agency), now known as SAI (Social Accountability International), together with several other organizations, and was officially introduced in 1997.

The SA 8000 standard is based on:

  • The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights;
  • Conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO);
  • International human rights standards and local labor laws.

The implementation of SA 8000 within a management system helps promote and ensure the fundamental rights of employees within an organization.

Conditions for Completing SA 8000 Certification Assessment

The certification body will notify the organization of the certification assessment schedule. The organization should prepare sufficient time and arrange work appropriately to ensure that the assessment is conducted according to plan.

Communicate the Standard and Assessment Process to All Employees
